Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test and the growing girl.

The Growing Girl

A word of advise on any access including Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test.  We cannot always be sure of the meanings. This is especially so when through the Baums, we cannot distinguish between actual performance and thoughts.  For example an adolescent  may THINK of stealing but actually may not. And therefore we cannot  tell him that he has stolen  etc. Only the subject himself can tell whether he has in fact done it  or not. This applies particularly to the sexual matters that are  big problems with most of the adolescents

Anyway, another case study:

A  girl 9 years old. Besides Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test, I also administered another access test of mine,  the Loganathan and Sivakumar's Family Portrait Test. I have given the directions and some guidelines on how to conduct it and  the interpratation in the Agamic Psychology Campus. The Loganathan and Sivakumar's family Portrait Test digs out more information that is relevant  to the psychology of young children

With this we come to the subject whose main problem is declining interest in studies.  I shall give an explanation of why it is so,  so that the  parents are aware too.

Baum A: A normal  tree with trunk and large crown with the tip of the trunk well into the crown. The branches are radiating from the tip and they,  half way through are covered up by the leaves.  There are  round tiny fruits all over. The trunk is unduely broad and the base is marked with jaggy lines.

Meaning:  A child is highly egocentric as shown by the broad trunk and will be quite demanding , stubborn and inflexible.  The radiating trunk also indicate a streak of aggressiveness. That the ground  is cut off with jaggy lines indicates that she is  world-centred with interest in enjoying sensual pleasures. Probabay also NOT open to advise etc

Baum B: A banana tree with large head and tapering base. There are crisscrossing lines at the bottom. The ground  is the same as in A. The leaves are large with a bunch of banana fruits.

Meaning: Considering that she is only nine years of age we have to conclude that she is  becoming more and more FEELING ruled than REASON ruled. Various kinds of passions and feelings are becoming the important elements of her personality , maybe in preparation for  the full flowering of the Feminine  in a couple of years later. She is NOT the intellectual  and analytical type but rather the sympathetic and feeling type. Such girls do not show an interest in studies as the school lessons would appear dry and intellectually too demanding. In her life with parents there are some problems and may be unhappiness. She may think that her parents don't love her much.

Baum C: A  large  tree  with almost round crown covering almost to the bottom. There are vertical lines inside the trunk with branches now alternating. But on the branches are her pets : toys of a doggy,  cat, a bird and strangely an owl.

Meaning:  Each one of these pets is a sign of emerging personal qualities and similar to the appearance of animals in dreams.  She is comparing perhaps  the reliability of the dogs with the unreliability  of the cats.  The dogs stick to their master but not the cats. Similarly between the nice bird and the owl. The owl represents  a tendency to be secretive and dishonest while the nice bird the opposite. She may indulge in fantasies of this type as a way of overcoming the LACK of real love from her parents. Or simply she is learning about her feelings thorough a kind of introspection.

Baum D: A very strange tree indeed. Only trunk without the crown . Snake -like streaks on the trunk with heads of various types which she herself has described  as: balloons, clown, elephant, scary face funny face etc.

Meaning:  She  will soon learn  the different types of  personalities in her life. It may be her immediate family members but through interacting with them she learns about their PERSONA, the face-masks they wear,  i.e.  the personalities that show up The disappearance of the Crown may also mean the lost of security- perhaps she feels she is NOT loved at all by the parents. This  may also be a cause for the emergence of the different types of face masks. People may appear dishonest and untrue-- just pretending to be but not actually so. The balloons stand for school lessons. So perhaps she will begin worrying about her studies as well.

Recommendation:

Nothing serious as I  see these developments as stages in her growth. She is NOT an abstract thinker but rather a feeling  oriented and hence PEOPLE oriented kind of person,  always demanding attention  from people in her circle.. Perhaps we can say she is developing strong feminine tendencies.  Just let her develop in her own way  as long as she  does not fall behind too much in her lessons.  I think in time to come, she will change and become a good student again but perhaps with interest in the humanities rather than the sciences.

Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test and the problem girl.

Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test and the problem girl.

Let us recall that, Baum Test is the most successful Access Test that really brings out the Unconscious into figural representation. Words have their limitations and verbal reports, because somehow Conscious  allows for Ego interference and hence censure etc. Drawings and such other visual representations, because of its nonverbal nature, succeed in catching glimpses of the unconscious or subconscious elements in the psychic interiority of the person.

As I have already explained, the the drawings in Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test, which has specific instruction for each Baum not only succeeds in capturing in visual form the contents of the unconscious but also  the UNDERSTANDING which is HISTORICAL, the past, the ongoing and the FUTURE possibilities that awaits the person as his/her own possibility.

The effecting  of an ACTION   not only brings what the person desires but also LEADS  him to something as its CONSEQUENCE which may be  pleasant or painful.  This is the importance of Baum D.

Baum A is a representation of the persons own PAST, baums B and C the ongoing, and certainly D, the yet to come. And all the four are interlinked like a chain.  As I have  already explained in the lectures, if D means something nasty, disasterous then the treatment consists in changing the present course of action as in C. Hence there is no magic  here but only making  the person UNDERSTAND and CHANGE his present course of behaviour to avoid the unpleasant future.

With these preliminaries I shall describe these Baums briefly and then come to their  meanings in relation to your questions.

Baum A: quite standard-- large clean trunk with globular crown inside which are round fruits . The crown is abstract-- no detailing of the  branches leaves etc. The fruits are actulally  clean circles.

Meaning: the crown is the Yin and the trunk is the Yang (the same as Bindu and Natham) and both are in healthy union. This means  the subject ( a Chinese girl probably  around 20 years old who just finished something like the A levels) quite normal and mentally quite healthy. However the circles may indicate some kind  of sadness, melancholy  or plainly some worries, or preccupation with sexual matters and hence indulging in sexual fantasies.

Baum B:  Similar to A except  for  large and small  patches of concentric circles inside the trunk. The fruits are scattered and the crown pressed here and there so that it is not that globular anymore- flattened in some places. Also there are some attachments, the top one with a circle inside.

Meaning: the patches of four concentric circles inside  the  trunk  indicates that she has done something  WRONG, something NOT approved by the parents and which she wants to  HIDE  from everybody. For a girl of this age it is normally clandestine love affairs and immoral sexual activities. Considering that there are FOUR it may be that she is playing around with several boys simultaneously,  maybe  just out of sheer boredom as shown in baum A.

Baum C. Back to clean trunk and large fruit-like circles inside the  crown. The crown is wavy at the edges  and  where it meets the trunk there are lines indicating branches.  One large  fruit-like circle is dropping to the  ground.

Meaning:  This dropping fruit, as you have rightly interpreted means actually dropping off.-- she wants to leave home maybe to indulge in her  sexual activities without the control of her parents. There  must already be anger on the part of the parents asking herself to behave, have self contol etc. Maybe they will also  begin to be strict with her etc.

Baum D: You can see the crown is TWO suns together with sharp and spiky rays, sharp like knifes. Inside the crown we have triangles. The trunk is shaded throughout with criss-crossing lines.

Meaning: This represents HOT radiating suns, a form of Yang. It means a flare up of intense anger , a fight between  her parents and herself in which she may be  thrown out of the house. Or she may decide to leave her parents to live on her own.

Here you can see the development, one leading to another.  Her sexual desires have been suppressed probably by the demands of the studies and examinations. Once that pressure was over, the suppressed sexual desires come to the fore and make her  enjoy sex however in clandestine manner and  which  in turn leads to the problems I have described.

Tips for Counselling:

Call her aside and tell her what AWAITS her-- she  having a serious flare-up with her parents and thereby being deprived of their continued love and support.  Ask her to tell you the TRUTH and make her understand how rash she is being. Later the counsellor can have a chat with her parents too so that they understand her needs  as well. Maybe they are unduly strict.

Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test : The Lesbian

Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test : The Lesbian

Without  wanting to sound arrogant and boastful but plainly assertive,  I want to mention that the introduction of Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test is the most important event in psychology in recent times.

It has  made the scientific investigations of the unconscious possible within the framework of hermeneutic science, the science most suited to study the human mind. With this we also recover the very ancient and essentially Eastern Psychological Tradition  that UNDERSTANDS even the religious experiences of mankind as belonging to the field of hermeneutic science and thus snatching it away from the clutches of vainglorious and often arrogant theologians.

Now we have a tool to UNDERSTAND the human being, bring about an UNDERSTANDING of SELF that is free of propaganda , indoctrination and induction into one's own petty ideologies and theologies. Certainly it is slow in catching up but definite progress is being made if the number of people who have begun to appreciate the enormous relevance of Loganathan and Sivakumar's Baum Test is anything to go by at all.

In this paper I want to describe an encounter I had and the insights I gained about a young woman well on her way towards becoming  a lesbian. I have met a number of homosexuals, lesbians and transvestites but this young woman was outstanding in her stubbornness and the challenges she presented to me as a counselor.

When she came to see me, I immediately noticed that 'she' is a man but in a female body,   something she very much loathes.  There was an attendant boldness, lack of gentleness, softness etc. As I gave her the test and later related to her the meanings, more and more of her personality unfolded itself and as she started to tell  me the biographic details, I began to understand  the origins of her dilemmas better. The Baums in LSBT she drew were as follows:

Baum A:  A tree of average size with regularly and symmetrically placed branches on either side  without any natural looking leaves or fruits but with circles, squares and triangles with  sizes suitable to pass off for leaves and fruits.

Baum B. The trunk is clear but cone-like. The crown is also cone shaped with zigzag contours  with small branches breaking into sub-branches,  sticking out on either side the trunk. More branches on the right side than the left. The tip is  very cloudy with circular lines all over.

Baum C. This Baum was the strangest. Two LINGAMS in the shape of thumbs, the one on the left slightly larger than the one on the right. The larger one also has a creeper with round leaves and fruits climbing over it. The one on the right  is left bare, with no decorations. at all. Both are drawn almost at the bottom.

Baum D. Just a sea anemone-like figure drawn almost at the bottom of the page.

The meanings are as follows:

'A' represents her happy past , her school days in which she was very active and had a lot of friends. However the recent past,  as disclosed in B shows  her  as a very aggressive and masculine  with definite lesbian tendencies. She finds herself admiring and dreaming about some of her feminine looking friends and because of which she became  very unpopular. Her friends talked ill of her and kept themselves away from her, unwilling to become partners to her lesbian advances. This in turn made her very miserable as indicated by the dark clouds at the tip of  the crown and which in fact made her come and see me.

The Baum C is definitely very advanced growth of masculine tendencies in her and which makes her pine for female company,  love and even sexual relationships using some modern gadgetry which are available in the shopping complexes. The Baum D is a dream image, swimming in dirty waters with disease bringing sea-anemones.

As I related to her the meanings, she gradually admitted her strong lesbian tendencies and the kind of problems she is facing because of that. It is true that her friends have deserted her and she has not met anyone who is willing to love her in the lesbian. fashion. One hopeful candidate also abandoned  her saying that it  is very unnatural and she is not prepared to go along with it. In fact she had told her that it was disgusting and a sickness of a kind which made her very very miserable and made wonder why all these problems for in life.

She came for counseling, NOT TO LISTEN to me but to get confirmation that she is in the right and that she is NOT abnormal etc. as her friends are telling her directly and indirectly. She understands her lesbian nature and wants to live with it  as such and if she cannot find a partner to share her love, she is prepared to spend the rest of her life in loneliness  hoping one day someone will respond positively. But I told her that her Baum D means a life of sickness and that if she pursues her desires without amending it , she may end up a very sick person suffering from all kinds of infectious diseases. But she  wouldn't listen and in fact she told me that she will NEVER draw the  yantras- the alchemical  diagrams --  as prescribed for her to bring out the feminine side of her.  She is happy as she is and she doesn't want to be  feminine at all. It is at this point that the secret came out. Right from the day she was born, it turned out that both her father and mother loathed her for being a girl. The  parents were happy only with the boys and her presence was not at all recognized. She was not shown any love at all and was considered a burden, something that was made very clear to herself also. Worst still was when she had a quarrel with her brothers, she was always chided and scolded by the parents even when she was in the right.  The worst was she was bullied and insulted severely by her brothers and she was totally helpless against them. She could not fight back for her rights because she knew that whatever it is, her parents will justify her brothers and NOT her. Thus one day in her early teens, unable to contain anymore all these miseries, she locked herself up inside a store room and came out after several hours with a new determination. Henceforth she will ignore her parents and brothers , establish a psychic fissure with them  and redouble her efforts in her studies so that would become an independent person.

But unfortunately and unconsciously, it was this decision that made her to develop the MASCULINE side of her and bury deep down the feminine and which after ten years or so has made her what she is today.

There was a pause and both of us took sometime to ponder over this piece of information that has made her what she is. She was adamant that what she is in fact what she wants to be and there is nothing wrong with it and that I should not try to change her; she is NOT prepared to change. It is at this point that I came strongly assertive.  I told her that as a Hermeneutic Counselor I am NOT here to reinforce her wishes but rather make her UNDERSTAND the origins of her dilemmas and the possible consequences  that awaits her as her possibilities. The Baum D is peculiarly important for it depicts what is waiting for her as her future if she follows the pattern of activities as in C. The actions X, such as those in C, bring  about the consequences Y such as those in D. If the consequences are GOOD then the present course of actions are also good and can be continued.  But since it is not so in her case,  I am duty bound to tell her the TRUTH, make her SEE that and through that PERSUADE her to change. It is after repeating this several times and believing that it is possible to bring out the feminine in her that she volunteered to try to practice the alchemical diagrams, or the yantras that I recommended for this purpose.

Dr Loga,

Don't know if this is a fair question - do let me know if it is not.  Would
your advice have been different if in D the Baum images were much more
positive, i.e. where say D indicates a clear and deep (not shallow or
contrived)  ability for her to be lesbian?

Dear Bala,

Thanks for your question and certainly it is fair. It helps me to clarify some issues about Hermenenutic Counseling. You see the logic is :  As X as in Baum C  results in  Y as in Baum D and if the meaning of D is certainly positive, then  my  advise will be: okay, go ahead as you are; I have no grounds to make you change even though my gut feelings and my personal value system is against it. This has happened several times while I was counseling the  university students especially females including Indians. You know premarital sexual relationships are not allowed among Indians. But there are girls in the twenties who have s steady boyfriend and have regular sexual relationships and BECAUSE of which they are HAPPY and study well. What binds them together is real LOVE and they are already married in a way even though the public ritual announcing it to the world has not taken place.   Noting the immenses complexity of the Human Mind I stand respectfully outside the process allowing the  Unconscious within  or more specifically the Trancendental Collective Unconscious (=God?) guide them along. I let the Tao or the Dance guide them along reserving for me only the role of interpreting the process and making the person understand it.
